13-year-old Mangudadatu a leader in the making

COTABATO CITY – As he steps up at the Commission on Elections regional office in Mabini Street here, this 13-year-old boy has been observed to be the youngest person among the horde of people inside the government office.

Datu Pax S. Mangudadatu was busy filing his COC for ARMM governor as his grandson Datu Pax Ali S. Mangudadatu looks on.

Not only that, he is always at the right side of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) gubernatorial candidate Datu Pax S. Mangudadatu, who filed Sunday morning his Certificate of Candidacy (COC), together with hundreds of supporters coming from different provinces composing the ARMM.

This triggered curiosity among media people who were present and started to wonder the identify of the young boy.

The boy is actually a namesake of Mangudadatu himself, Datu Pax Ali Sangki Mangudadatu, his grandson and the eldest son of Isulan Sultan Kudarat Governor Datu Suharto “Teng” T. Mangudadatu.

“He is groomed to be the leader in the making of Sultan Kudarat,” according to retired Police General Akmad Mamalinta, a close friend of the Mangudadatus.

The young Mangudadatu is supposed to be second year high school this school opening at the Ateneo de Davao University.

“Actually since I was still young, I was already trained to be a leader. I am in fact a student leader being a Representative of the Student Council for first year,” he said in an interview.

The Mangudadatus have a residence in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat but they have also other house in Davao City.

“I transferred at the Ateneo when I was still in grade three and studying there since then. My other four brothers are also studying there in Ateneo,” he said.

His younger brother is already 12 years old but was not exposed to political activities like him. His cousin, Bai Princess, the 22-year-old daughter of Lutayan mayor and Suharto’s older sister, Ruth, was actually the eldest granddaughter of the older Mangudadatu. But after finishing her college degree, she left for the United States of America (USA).
