Protecting the CHILDREN & YOUTHS in Davao del Sur

Soldiers operating in different towns of Davao del Sur are putting top priority the protection of children and youths to spare from being recruited by the New People’s Army.

Recruitment of minors by the NPA rebels in the province were monitored to be intensifying and the very best remedy to counter such action is to teach these children with moral and good values through house visitation and peace dialogues and these youths to be active members of the Youth For Peace.

According to Lt. Col. Oliver Artuz, commander of the 39th Infantry Battalion based in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, part of their priority thrusts is to educate the children and to urge the youths to attend youth-oriented activities like the Youth Leadership Summit.

The 39th IB soldiers’ very good initiative earned them a  recognition. They were awarded the Gawad Anti-Child Labor Award at NEAP Leadership Training Center, Department of Education Regional Office in Davao City on April 27, 2011.

Artuz said they will not get tired of implementing the peace and development initiatives in their area, adding that they are the key to sustain the government’s campaign to end the decades-old menace of insurgency.
