DCWD reveals schools in speech contests

The Davao City Water District announces the final list of schools competing for this year’s 4th Debate and 11th Extemporaneous Speaking competitions. These contests are among the highlights of the Davao City wide Water Consciousness Month celebration themed this year as “Protect Water Resources. Preserve Lives” of which the DCWD is the lead agency as mandated by Proclamation No. 12 issued September 27, 2001 by then mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.

Elimination rounds for the extemporaneous speaking contest which will be held at Lispher inn are divided into three batches. Schools who will compete in the morning on November 16 are Ateneo de Davao University, Assumption College of Davao, Bernardo D. Carpio NHS, Biao NHS, Brokenshire College of Toril, Christian Colleges of Southeast Asia, Colegio de San Ignacio, Davao City Special NHS, Holy Child – Main, Philippine Science High School – Southern Mindanao Campus, St. Augustine International School, Stella Maris Academy of Davao, and Sta. Ana NHS. In the afternoon of November 16 competing schools are Brokenshire Science HS, Daniel R. Aguinaldo NHS, Davao City NHS, Governor Vicente Duterte NHS, Holy Cross of Agdao, Holy Cross of Davao College Inc., Jesus J. Soriano NHS, Maa NHS, Philippine Academy of Sakya, Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School, Precious International School of Davao, St. Peter’s College of Toril and UM Ilang-Tibungco. Last batch is on November 17 in the morning and competing schools are Cabantian NHS, Catalunan Pequeño NHS, Davao Central College, Davao Christian HS, Davao Jones Academy, Holy Child School of Davao Green Meadows, Holy Cross of Mintal, St. Patrick Math-Science School, St. Paul College of Pasig – Davao Campus,  The Lamb of God SPED Academy, Toril NHS and University of Immaculate Conception.

The eight teams to compete in the debate contest during the eliminations on November 18 at Lispher Inn are Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, Stella Maris Academy of Davao, Davao City NHS, Brokenshire Science HS, Colegio de San Ignacio, Davao Christian HS, Holy Cross of Mintal and Christian Colleges of Southeast Asia.

Finals for the extemporaneous speaking will be on November 23 and the debate will be on November 25 at the NCCC Mall Activity Center.

Medals and cash prizes await winners, runners-up and Best Debater. Certificates will also be given to all participants, coaches and school heads. Activity head coordinator DCWD public information / relations division manager Maria Editha C. Monje will meet the coaches for a briefing on October 26 at Pinutos Republic.

Last year’s winners for the debate competition were Ateneo de Davao University in first place, Philippine Science High School in second and Davao Christian High School in third.

For the extemporaneous speaking contest, Jose Maria College dominated the other 42 participants with Davao Christian High School in second and Davao City National High School placing third. (Jovana T. Duhaylungsod)
