PNP INTENSIFY LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS, ANTI-CRIMINALITY CAMPAIGN AND PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES DURING THE YULETIDE SEASON

The Philippine National Police intensifies its law enforcement operations, anti-criminality campaign and public safety services to keep the yuletide season safe as it issues LOI 42-2011 which provide the guidelines in the conduct of public safety operations in all places of convergence like tourist spots, vacation hubs, markets, malls, airport, seaport, bus terminals and most especially churches where people will converge during the “Simbang Gabi” where millions are expected to observe the Christian tradition.

PNP Chief PDG Nicanor Bartolome ordered all PNP Regional Directors, Provincial Directors and all PNP units to conduct intensified police patrol utilizing the Police Integrated Patrol System (PIPS) and to deploy administrative PNP personnel to augment beat patrol personnel in anti-street crime operations.

Bartolome said that aside from the 140,000-strong police force the PNP had also tapped the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) and other accredited NGOs and radio groups to assist the police in providing public assistance and traffic management along major thoroughfares nationwide as the PNP expects heavy influx of “balikbayans” and tourist who will visit the country and celebrate the yuletide season with their friends and relatives. The PNP will also utilize thousands of security guards to help in safeguarding the country.

“The PNP vows to keep the nation safe as Christians celebrate the yuletide season, we will intensify all police operations and will use all our resources and manpower just to make sure that the holidays will be peaceful and merry,” Bartolome said.

The Chief PNP also emphasized that the intensified police operations will last until January to make sure that lawless elements and criminals will be fended off and people will be safe everywhere they go during the holidays.

The PNP will also establish “Assistance Hubs” in all major airports, seaports, and transport terminals and will also strictly monitor illegal fireworks as the PNP works hand-in-hand with the Department of Health (DOH) for the “Iwas Paputok” Campaign which aims to bring down firecracker related incidents. The assistance hubs will operate 24/7 to cater to tourists and balikbayans who will be going home to their provinces.

The PNP through the Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR) will also conduct public information and dissemination campaign to raise public awareness and give them ideas on how to keep their homes safe while they are away, especially those who live in Metro Manila who plans to visit their relatives in the provinces.

The PNP Chief also said that they will maintain Alert Status in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4B, 5, 6, 7, 8, while placing the Police Regional Offices in Cordillera, National Capital, NHQs and NSUs on Heightened Alert. Bartolome meanwhile reiterates Full Alert Status in regions 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, ARMM and the SAF troopers after the series of bombing incidents in Mindanao.
