Coaremco helps DCWD rehab Mt. Talomo-Lipadas watershed

THE Commission On Audit Region Eleven Multipurpose Cooperative (Coaremco) and the Davao City Water District recently forged a memorandum of agreement for the regreening of one hectare inside the Mt. Talomo Lipadas watershed. Coaremco pledged to shoulder tree-parenting expenses while the DCWD will take charge of the supervision and technical expertise that would ensure survival of seedlings.

Coaremco was represented by its board of directors’ chair Purita A. Barnales, members Atty. Concepcion C. Laygo and Rhodora Canete who signed the MOA with DCWD officials, led by acting general manager Edwin V. Regalado, Community Relations and External Affairs Department manager Imelda T. Magsuci, and Environment and Watershed Protection Division manager Engr. Anthony D. Miranda.

Coaremco officials said that they felt the urgency to avert the looming water crisis which is now being experienced in some areas of the country, hence, they decided to join DCWD’s Adopt-a-Site project.

“We need not wait until it’s too late, actions should be undertaken now,” Barnales said.

The cooperative also lauded DCWD’s initiative and for doing its best to protect the watersheds in the city for water sustainability.

Barnales also urged other cooperatives to participate in the reforestation efforts through the DCWD’s Adopt-a-Site project which she described as a sustainable measure.

Regalado thanked Coaremco and explained that the amount pledged, which is P6,000 a year or P30,000 in five years, will be used to finance the rigorous and delicate process of tree parenting. He also explained that adopters may pay in lump or in installment of P6,000 annually.

Adopters also enjoy the following benefits: Inclusion of name or company name in the roster of adopters in the watershed area; assistance during area visits; provision with progress reports; recognition of adopter’s role as our partner in watershed rehabilitation that would be published in leading newspapers.
