Authorities determining who hit girl in Panabo robbery-shooting

DAVAO CITY, March 7 (PNA) – Authorities here are still investigating on the circumstances surrounding the death of a 15-year-old girl who was among those six persons killed in a daring robbery that led to a shootout Tuesday afternoon in Km. 31, Barangay Cagangonan, Panabo City, Davao del Norte.

“We are still determining on whose bullets hit the victim. We are conducting a thorough investigation as of now,” said Supt. Marvin Manuel Pepino, director of the Panabo City Police Office.

The victim, Irene Pilotos, a second year high school student of the Manay National High School, was only visiting her uncle, Leo Lai, owner of the Yidong Agricultural Supply, when unknowingly it was at that instance that she met her unfortunate fate.

Aside from Pilotos, Sr. Insp. Rene Angelo Alampay, intelligence officer of the Panabo City Police Office, driver Edgar Mocos, security guard Allan Jones Polo, alleged robber Dexter Marcellones and his unidentified companion were also slain in the incident.

Pepino said around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Marcellones and his companion reportedly arrived at Lai’s store on board a yellow XRM Honda motorcycle and immediately drew their .45 caliber pistol from their belt bags and shot to death Mocos and Polo.

The suspects reportedly looked for the office and confronted Rhea Lai, the wife of the store owner, and Pilotos and asked for the money.

After getting cash amounting to P900,000, the suspects shot Rhea, who was six-month pregnant while they took Pilotos as hostage on their way out.

The suspects commandeered Lai’s Blue Mitsubishi Pajero and as they saw five policemen on board their police mobile vehicle who responded to a police assistance they immediately opened fire at them, hitting Alampay on the head.

Other policemen returned fire and after a couple of minutes of exchange of bullets, the two robbers and the hostage were found blooded and lifeless. (PNA)
