Men with HIV outnumber women in Davao

DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Aids Registry has recorded a total of 220 persons living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) where 204 were males and 16 females.

Of this number, 24 persons (20 males and only four males) were already reported to have died because of the disease.

The registry came up with its data since it was established in 1993. It is updating every quarter  and for the last quarter of 2011 covering October 1 to December 31, the 31 who tested positive were all males into homosexual sex. No females and no males into heterosexual and even bisexual sex.

The demographics showed that the youth or those aged 15-24 is the highest among the total with a cumulative number from 1993 of 76, and having the highest number who tested positive in the last quarter of 2011 at 14 out of 31.

The second highest number for the same period was between the ages of 25-and 34 at 11. The age between 35 and 44 had 5 confirmed cases for the same period. There was one reported death due to Aids. (ASA)
