Owner of motorcycle used in Panabo bloody heist arrested

DAVAO CITY – The man who owned the motorcycle used by the two slain suspects in the bloody robbery and shootout on Tuesday afternoon in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, was arrested by authorities.

Eddie Pacio, 37, was collared Thursday at his residence in Purok 8, San Miguel, Tagum City, by joint elements of the Panabo City Police Office and Davao del Norte Provincial Public Safety Company after it was established that he owned the yellow XRM motorcycle with plate number 8385-YL.
A case is being prepared against Pacio for being an accomplice to the robbery at the Yidong Agri Supply that killed six persons, including Sr. Insp. Rene Angelo Alampay, Panabo City’s  police deputy chief for intelligence.

For his part, Pacio said he has not been using the Honda XRM motorcycle and was leasing the vehicle to one Jomari Mabalot, 23, a resident of Gredu in Panabo City.

Police Regional Office 11 spokesperson Supt. Marcial Magistrado said that Mabalot is now the subject of manhunt operation after he was tagged to be among the suspected robbers.

Magistrado said the robbers belong to the so-called Sarabia Hold-up Group, an organized robbery group operating in the entire region.

Meanwhile, Panabo police chief Supt. Marvin Manuel Pepino admitted that the bullets that killed hostage victim 15-year-old Irene Pilotos could come from the responding policemen who were not aware that the suspects were taking a hostage inside the Blue Mitsubishi Pajero which was used as the getaway vehicle.

Pepino said Pilotos has become a collateral damage in the intense shootout that also claimed the life of his trusted subordinate, Sr. Insp. Alampay.

Alampay, who was already in the police service for over 18 years, has just been promoted last December 2011. He was described by his relatives to be a good man and very dedicated to his work. (ASA)
