4 alleged BIFF members held in Digos City

INVESTIGATORS are digging deeper on their investigation on the arrest Monday night in Digos City of four men believed to be members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), the renegade group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
The suspects – Rolando Arcelo, Antonio Layo, Alnasim Cabilocan and Darwin Visto – were arrested by elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)’s satellite office in Davao del Sur with the help of its Community Investigative Support (CIS).
Sr. Insp. Francis Sonza, chief of CIDG-Davao del Sur, said during the operation the suspects yielded several firearms that really surprised them.
Recovered from the possession of the suspects were three improvised shotguns, two .357 caliber revolvers, 12 live ammunitions of.38 caliber revolver, and 10 live ammunitions of a shotgun.
The suspects were arrested around 11:30 p.m. Monday at the Baywalk in Tienda Aplaya, Digos City for being tagged to be escorts of big-time illegal fishers.
But later, information revealed that the BIFF has gone to Davao del Sur to recruit members even though they are Christians as long as they are willing to be converted into Islam.
This report also reached to another intelligence unit of the Philippine National Police that prompted it to step up its monitoring and surveillance operations against the movement of the group. (ASA)
