Techies gather for 54-hour startup weekend in Davao

DAVAO CITY — Technology enthusiasts gather here in the city to attend the three-day Startup Weekend Davao at the Philippine College of Technology in J.P. Laurel Avenue here.
Dulce Rose Lada, leader organizer of Startup Weekend Davao, said that the event will be on November 9 to 11 that will connect local entrepreneurs, developers, designers, marketers and startup enthusiasts to come together to share ideas, form teams and launch startup businesses in 54 hours.
“This event supports the development and expansion of entrepreneurship through events worldwide that educate aspiring entrepreneurs by immersing them in the process of moving an idea to market,” Lada told reporters during the Kapehan sa SM Monday.
She said that Startup Weekend will also re-awaken the local technopreneurial spirit and help promote an innovative technology ecosystem.
Lada said Zachary Cohn, bootcamp director of Startup Weekend Headquarters, Seattle, USA, is also coming to facilitate the event while other serial entrepreneurs and experienced mentors from abroad and and based here in the country will participate as coaches over the weekend to provide entrepreneurial insight and inspiration.
She said pitching starts on Friday night, adding anyone is welcome to pitch their business concepts in 60 seconds or less to the audience.
“Attendees will vote on their favourite ideas after the pitch-fire session. Teams form around the top ideas and an evolution of business model creation; coding, designing and market validation commence,” she said.
Lada said by Sunday evening, the event culminates with the final presentation of ideas by each team in front of a panel of judges who will award the prizes.
Winning team will compete at the Global Startup Battle that might earn them a VIP trip to Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco Googleplex, $15,000 startup support services and other exciting prizes. (ASA)
