Car shop owner turning as complainant in carnapping cases

DAVAO CITY – The owner of the Golden Sapphire car shop in Matina Aplaya, which yielded 22 “hot” vehicles, is turning himself as a complainant of the one who reportedly left them to his custody.

Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) 11 regional director Sr. Supt. Gregorio Pimentel said that Elmer Ang is very cooperative with the ongoing investigation and is ready to execute an affidavit-complaint to file charges against Rudy Macarampat, whose last known address was Kidapawan City.

Pimentel said that Macarampat was also linked to the Baktin Carnap Syndicate, whose leader, Ryan Cain Yu, is still the subject of police manhunt even as a P5-million reward was put up by Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for anyone who can literally bring his head to him.

He said aside from Macarampat, there are also other suspects who will be named as respondents of the multiple carnapping cases they are set to file on Monday.

“We are ready to file more carnapping cases against those who were involved. We will see to it that if they will post bails on past cases, we can also immediately re-arrest them because of these additional charges,” Pimentel said.

On October 26, Ang, surrendered the 22 luxurious vehicles following the HPG’s intensified operations against the notorious Baktin group

He said the vehicles were simply left at the shop by Macarampat ostensibly for “repair” sometime in April this year.

Pimentel said most of the vehicles are Toyota-made while some are Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Ang said his shop has been operating for sometime and accepts motor vehicles involved in vehicular accidents, towing the wrecks to their shop and helping in the vehicles’ insurance processing and claims. (ASA)
