Magnitude 6.2 quake jolts Davao del Sur town

DAVAO CITY — A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off Sarangani town in Davao del Sur at 12:47 this afternoon.

According to Desiderio Cabanlit, regional director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) here, the epicenter of the earthquate was located 32 kilometers southeast of Sarangani.

He said intensity III was also felt in Davao City, intensity II in General Santos City and Butuan City.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin which means it was caused by the movement of a local fault.

Cabanlit said aftershocks and damages are not expected from the quake. (ASA)
