Davao’s Infiesto to officiate in 4th Asian Indoor Games

DAVAO CITY — Davao City Deputy Sports Chief James Infiesto will again be assigned as a technical official in the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games slated on June 27 to July 7 in Incheon, South Korea.

Infiesto, a licensed world chess federation FIDE Arbiter and now also a FIDE National Instructor, was also the technical official in the 14th ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships held last June 5-14 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

He was assigned as the chief technical official in the Under 20 and Senior divisions.

“It’s an honor for me to be assigned as a technical chief being a Mindanaon,” said Infiesto at the SCOOP of The Royal Mandaya Hotel sponsored by TRMH, Genesis 88, Mulatto Outdoor, Beefit Gym and Dexter’s Pizza @ The Stadium.

Infiesto also performed some magic tricks during the opening program together with his partner Skye Dionela of Bonjee Entertainment.

Infiesto was invited in South Korea by the organizing committee headed by its president Kim Young Soo and the Olympic Council of Asia president H.E. Ahmad Al-Fahad Al Sabah.

Infiesto, the regional director of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and deputy sports chief of the City Mayor’s Office Sports Development division, is now aiming to become a FIDE International Arbiter.

Meanwhile, Infiesto lauded the performance of the two players from Davao City -– Ella Grace Moulic of the Holy Cross of Davao College and John Marvin Miciano of Ateneo de Davao University -– who won four silver medals in the 14th ASEAN Age-Group.

He said the victory of the two was like winning the gold because a lot of players are really good, citing the strong entries of China, India, Vietnam and Mongolia.

Moulic, who bagged three silver medals in the team event of the girls Under 16 is now seeing action in the Asian Youth Championships from June 19 to 27 in Sari, Iran.

“We expect Ella to get her ratings after her campaign in Iran already,” said Infiesto.
